Santa Ana- The judges of the Superior Court in Orange County elected Joe Teel Perez to the position of Superior Court Commissioner, where he is currently hearing traffic cases at the North Justice Center in Fullerton, California, announced Chief Executive Officer Alan Slater.
Commissioner Perez has extensive experience in criminal defense litigation. For the past 12 years, he has been a Senior Public Defender in the Orange County Public Defender’s Office, with a homicide, kidnapping, gang, and sexual assault caseload. Earlier he was in private practice for a year and was an instructor for a traffic violators’ school for four years. Commissioner Perez was awarded a law degree from the Southwestern University School of Law and a bachelor of arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Commissioners serve as subordinate judicial officers with the Superior Court. The types of cases and/or hearings they may be assigned include small claims, family, juvenile and landlord/tenant matters. The annual salary of Commissioner is $145,901.
