Qualification

Jury staff of the superior courts do not ask past or prospective jurors for information regarding credit card, bank account information and Social Security numbers. Please do not provide this type of information to anyone claiming to be associated with Jury Services. Please contact our office if you receive this type of request.

Qualification/Disqualification

In accordance with Code of Civil Procedure, Sec. 203 (a), all persons are eligible and qualified to serve as prospective trial jurors, except persons with circumstances listed below. Access the eJuror application to request a disqualification.

I am able to serve
YOU ARE ABLE TO SERVE AS A TRIAL JUROR

  1. Access the eJuror application to complete the questionnaire
  2. Follow the directions in step 2 on your summons
I AM NOT A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES

If you are not a citizen of the United States, you are not qualified to serve as a trial juror.

  1. Access the eJuror application to complete the questionnaire
  2. After completing the questionnaire and confirming then select the "Disqualify" button
I AM UNDER EIGHTEEN YEARS OF AGE

If you are not 18 years of age, you are not qualified to serve as a trial juror.

  2. After completing the questionnaire and confirming then select the "Disqualify" button
I AM NOT A RESIDENT OF ORANGE COUNTY

If you are no longer a resident of Orange County, you will need to tell us where you now reside. The Jury Commissioner’s Office receives its list of names from the Orange County Registrar of Voters List and the California DMV. Make sure you have updated your information with those agencies.

  2. After completing the questionnaire and confirming then select the "Disqualify" button
I DO NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

If you do not have sufficient knowledge of the English language to act as a juror. (May be deemed qualified if U.S. Citizen.)

  1. Access the eJuror application to complete the questionnaire
  2. After completing the questionnaire and confirming then select the "Disqualify" button
I HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OF A FELONY OR MALFEASANCE IN OFFICE

If you have been convicted of a felony or malfeasance in office and have not had your civil rights restored, you cannot serve as a juror. If you are unsure, contact the court where your proceeding was held or consult a legal professional.

  2. After completing the questionnaire and confirming then select the "Disqualify" button
I AM CURRENTLY SERVING OR WILL BE SERVING AS A GRAND JUROR OR TRIAL JUROR

If you are/or will be serving as juror in any court.

  1. Access the eJuror application to complete the questionnaire
  2. After completing the questionnaire and confirming then select the "Disqualify" button

Note:
If you have served as a juror in the last 12 months at the United States District Court, or Federal Court, you can request to be excused from jury service at the Superior Court. However, the Federal Court will not excuse you unless you have served as a sworn juror within the last 12 months.

I AM SUBJECT OF CONSERVATORSHIP

If you are subject to a conservatorship.

  1. Access the eJuror application to complete the questionnaire
  2. After completing the questionnaire and confirming then select the "Disqualify" button
I HAVE A PHYSICAL OR MENTAL DISABILITY

If you are not able to serve due to a physical or mental condition.

  1. Access the eJuror application to complete the questionnaire
  2. After completing the questionnaire and confirming then select the "Excuse" button
I HAVE A PERSONAL OBLIGATION TO GIVE CARE TO ANOTHER

If you provide care to another, it must be on a full time basis. The care must be a PERSONAL obligation not a PROFESSIONAL obligation.

  2. After completing the questionnaire and confirming then select the "Excuse" button
I WILL BEAR AN EXTREME FINANCIAL BURDEN

If you will bear an extreme personal financial burden by serving jury service.

  1. Access the eJuror application to complete the questionnaire
  2. After completing the questionnaire and confirming then select the "Excuse" button
I HAVE SERVED AS A JUROR IN ORANGE COUNTY WITHIN THE PAST 12 MONTHS

If you have served as a Grand Juror or Trial Juror within the past 12 months, you are excused from serving at this time.

  1. Access the eJuror application to complete the questionnaire
  2. After completing the questionnaire and confirming then select the "Excuse" button
THE PERSON SUMMONED IS DECEASED

If you are completing the summons for a person that is deceased.

  1. Access the eJuror application to complete the questionnaire
  2. After completing the questionnaire and confirming then select the "Disqualify" button
I AM A PEACE OFFICER

If you are a peace officer, you may be exempt from serving as a trial juror.

  1. Access the eJuror application to complete the questionnaire
  2. After completing the questionnaire and confirming then select the "Peace Officer Exemption" button
